About the position

The Hydraulic (Transportation) Engineer position at TxDOT involves providing technical assistance in drainage design, collaborating with various divisions and agencies, and managing projects related to hydrology and hydraulics. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving to enhance the state's H&H program. Engineers at different levels (I, II, III, IV) will engage in a variety of tasks, from technical evaluations to advanced planning and training development, contributing to innovative solutions in transportation engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance in drainage design and hydraulics evaluations.
  • Collaborates with other divisions and regional offices on project development.
  • Manages technical consultants and monitors their progress and work quality.
  • Conducts on-site engineering evaluations and provides technical support.
  • Represents the division at meetings and makes presentations.
  • Acts as a consultant project manager, preparing supplemental agreements and checking invoices.
  • Performs planning work such as plan reviews and calculations.
  • Utilizes project management principles to execute transportation projects efficiently.
  • Coordinates with others to develop and update integrated project plans and schedules.
  • Develops training courses and materials (for Engineer IV).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • 4-7 years of engineering or transportation engineering experience depending on the level (I-IV).
  • Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Safety Impact Certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present information effectively.
  • Experience in project management and planning.
