About the position
The Hydroelectric Power Plant Operator (Senior) position at the Department of the Interior involves overseeing the operations of hydroelectric power plants to ensure efficient water release and power generation while maintaining safety and environmental standards. The role requires monitoring communication circuits, performing emergency operations, and documenting plant conditions. This position is crucial for meeting the increasing water demands in the West while protecting the environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring primary and secondary communications circuits to all system plant facilities.
- Overseeing hydroelectric power plant operations to effect changes in water releases.
- Performing switching and tagging operations, issuing clearances, and conducting emergency switching operations.
- Observing and documenting abnormal operating conditions in the plant; determining nature, cause, and corrective actions to address identified issues.
- Preparing technical documentation and maintaining pertinent data logs.
- Performing other related duties as assigned within this classification.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- Must be suitable for federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.
- Must maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
- Periodic and regular recurring safety and health medical examinations required.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination by an agency-approved licensed physician certifying ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to perform duties involving physical exertion safely and efficiently.
