About the position

At AECOM, we are seeking a Dam Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead with a strong background in Hydrology and Hydraulics to join our dedicated Dams Engineering practice in the U.S. East Region. This role is pivotal in supporting and expanding our dams practice, focusing on hydrologic and hydraulic engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading various dam engineering analysis and design projects, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with regulatory standards. The position involves overseeing the technical execution of projects, which includes conducting inspections, performing analyses, designing hydraulic structures, and ensuring regulatory compliance for dams, spillways, and related hydraulic structures. Key tasks include conducting hydrologic analyses, hydraulic structure modeling, dam breach analyses, and preparing technical reports and graphics. The role also requires engaging with AECOM's Quality Management System, performing detailed reviews of technical deliverables, and maintaining effective communication with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Project Manager will plan, direct, supervise, and manage projects that involve multiple team members across various business lines. This includes maintaining positive client relationships, coordinating contracts, managing project finances, and implementing quality management systems. The role also emphasizes business development, requiring collaboration with clients and subcontractors to build trusted relationships and develop proposals that include technical approaches, budgets, and schedules. Mentoring junior staff and fostering their professional growth is also a key aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of projects including inspection, analysis, design, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams, spillways, and other appurtenant hydraulic structures.
  • Conduct hydrologic analyses including flood frequency estimates and statistical hydrology, model preparation, calibration, and verification.
  • Perform hydraulic structure modeling including weirs, orifices, spillways, and complex pipe systems, using one- and two-dimensional modeling approaches as well as spreadsheet calculations.
  • Conduct dam breach analyses using one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling approaches and prepare inundation maps.
  • Support other dam engineering activities such as visual inspections, potential failure modes and risk analyses, and emergency action planning.
  • Prepare technical reports, graphics including construction drawings, maps, figures, and exhibits, and supporting calculations.
  • Engage with AECOM's Quality Management System by performing detailed reviews of technical deliverables prepared by others.
  • Communicate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and manage small to large scale projects that include 5 or more members, often representing multiple business lines.
  • Maintain positive productive client relationships.
  • Coordinate contracting and plan and execute approved scopes of work.
  • Procure and coordinate subcontractors and manage project finances.
  • Implement quality management system and control and manage changes to project.
  • Develop and grow business by collaborating directly with clients and subcontractors to build trusted relationships and by developing proposals including technical approaches, project budgets, and schedules.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and codes.

  • Proven experience with inspecting dams and preparing inspection reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing emergency action plans and planning and facilitating exercises of those plans.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing projects or completing project management activities such as maintaining project budgets, schedule, staffing, quality control, and/or client relations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing proposals including preparing technical approaches and scopes of work, budgeting, and scheduling.
