We seek an enthusiastic Dam Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead with expertise in Hydrology and Hydraulics to play a key role in a growing dedicated Dams Engineering practice in our U.S. East Region. The successful candidate is an experienced engineer that supports and grows our dams practice in the core discipline of Hydrologic and Hydraulic engineering. This position will support a variety of dam engineering analysis and design projects across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of projects including inspection, analysis, design, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams, spillways, and other appurtenant hydraulic structures.
  • Conduct hydrologic analyses including flood frequency estimates and statistical hydrology, model preparation, calibration, and verification.
  • Perform hydraulic structure modeling including weirs, orifices, spillways, and complex pipe systems, using one- and two-dimensional modeling approaches as well as spreadsheet calculations.
  • Execute dam breach analyses using one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling approaches and preparation of inundation maps.
  • Support other dam engineering activities such as visual inspections, potential failure modes and risk analyses, and emergency action planning.
  • Prepare technical reports, graphics including construction drawings, maps, figures, and exhibits, and supporting calculations.
  • Engage with AECOM's Quality Management System by performing detailed reviews of technical deliverables prepared by others.
  • Communicate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and manage small to large scale projects that include 5 or more members, often representing multiple business lines.
  • Maintain positive productive client relationships.
  • Coordinate contracting and plan and execute approved scopes of work.
  • Procure and coordinate subcontractors and manage project finances.
  • Implement quality management system and control and manage changes to project.
  • Develop and grow business by collaborating directly with clients and subcontractors to build trusted relationships and by developing proposals including technical approaches, project budgets, and schedules.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Hydrologic, Hydraulic, and/or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one US state.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience working on hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of civil works projects with a minimum of 5 years working on hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of dam projects.
  • Proven experience with inspecting dams and preparing inspection reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing emergency action plans and planning and facilitating exercises of those plans.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing projects or completing project management activities such as maintaining project budgets, schedule, staffing, quality control, and/or client relations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing proposals including preparing technical approaches and scopes of work, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Occasional travel for project work as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Hydrologic, Hydraulic, and/or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Master of Business Administration degree.
  • 15 years of direct experience working on hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of civil works.
  • Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling skills and software application experience, preferably with FLOW-3D.
  • Experience developing design documents related to dams and hydraulic structures including drawings and plans, specifications, and basis of design reports.
  • Approved FERC Independent Consultant (IC) or the ability to receive FERC approval to perform Part 12D Inspections.
  • Experience performing risk assessments and Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMAs) related to dam design, construction, and operation.
  • 8-Hour Confined Space Training (either General Industry, Construction Industry, or both).
  • Experience and ability with software applications such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-MetVUE, NRCS SITES, ESRI ArcMap or ArcPro, AutoDesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Office, MS Project or Primavera P6.
