About the position

This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), River Forecast Center (RFC), with one vacancy in Salt Lake City, Utah. The position is permanent and offers a salary range of $103,409 - $134,435 per year at the GS-13 pay scale. The job is not remote, but telework is eligible as determined by agency policy. Occasional travel may be required, and relocation expenses are not reimbursed. The work schedule includes multiple schedules, and the position does not have promotion potential.

Responsibilities

• Perform Lead Hydrologist forecast functions in the day-to-day hydrologic operation of the River Forecast Center (RFC), including both real- and non-real time operations.
• Perform routine daily short-range hydrologic and meteorological forecast operations before and during high water and flood episodes.
• Analyze incoming real time hydro/met data for consistency and process it into an operational hydrologic modeling system.
• Provide on-the-job advice and training on daily forecast operations to Hydrologic Forecasters, Hydrologic Interns, and Hydrometeorological Analysis and Support Forecaster (HAS) Forecasters.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
• Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.
• Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
• A background investigation will be required for this position.
