About the position

The Assistant Professor position in the Section of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine involves providing critical care in the medical intensive care unit at Baylor St. Luke's Hospital. The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, supervision of medical trainees, and participation in quality improvement initiatives, all aimed at optimizing patient outcomes and contributing to the academic mission of the institution.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct critical care for patients in the Medical and Cardiac Critical Care Units.
• Actively participate in daily and weekly multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with teams including Pharmacy, Case Management, Infection Prevention, Respiratory Therapy, and other disciplines to optimize patient outcomes.
• Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including but not limited to Bronchoscopy, Chest tube placement, Endotracheal intubation, Central and arterial line placement, Ultrasound-guided procedures, etc.
• Supervise and mentor medical students, residents (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Anesthesia), fellows (Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, Critical Care, and Anesthesia Critical Care), and Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
• Participate in didactics and teaching sessions for medical students, residents, and fellows, contributing to the academic mission of Baylor College of Medicine.
• Provide in-house night coverage as part of a rotating schedule, supervising house staff and APPs to ensure continuity and excellence in patient care during overnight shifts.
• Engage in quality care improvement initiatives, focusing on patient safety, efficiency, and outcomes.

Requirements

• M.D. degree.
• Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine.
• Commitment to clinical excellence and a track record of excellent clinical performance.
• Scholarly enthusiasm.
