About the position

The Infrastructure and Energy Managing Director at IDB Invest is a senior leadership role responsible for driving business development and achieving strategic goals within the infrastructure and energy sectors across Latin America and the Caribbean. The position requires a dynamic leader with extensive banking experience, strong market relationships, and the ability to oversee multiple delivery units and sector heads. The role involves defining business strategies, managing resources, and ensuring alignment with the institution's broader objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in business development, especially at a high level of dialogue with industry clients.
  • Lead the Delivery Units and Sector Heads, providing oversight and guidance in their strategic, tactical, and operational activities.
  • Define business development strategies and a client relationship management plan for the respective sectors.
  • Define sectoral priorities and roadmaps, including the definition of upstream work, and generate actionable sector-focused knowledge by region.
  • Ensure IDB Invest counterparts participating in the dialogue and engagement with governments receive sector support.
  • Coordinate with the Cross-Cutting leaders in developing strategies and capabilities to deliver an advisory value proposition that supports clients in achieving developmental goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership and alignment in their respective sectors to develop key corporate, institutional, and IDB Group strategic initiatives and documents.
  • Set goals for the Delivery Units, including allocating capital and budgets.
  • Chair Investment Decision Meetings.
  • Manage operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources at the unit level.
  • Coordinate with IDB and IDB Lab counterparts to promote synergies.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record.
  • Proven industry expertise and strong relationships with the market and clients in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank's official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
