About the position

The IES Database Support Analyst I position at the State of Illinois involves supporting the Illinois Department of Health & Human Services by reviewing and analyzing functional system requirements and user requests for modifications. The role requires creating queries from various data sources and participating in complex database and systems software implementations. The analyst will provide technical expertise in database design and documentation, ensuring optimal database performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze functional system requirements and user requests for modifications.
  • Create queries from TANF, SNAP, and Medical Eligibility Systems sources.
  • Conduct large complex database/systems software implementation duties as a team member.
  • Provide technical expertise in the production of detailed database designs and design documentation.
  • Complete maintenance and performance tuning of system databases using DB2 and AIX.
  • Determine solutions to problems and prepare recommendations and impact statements for project management.
  • Prepare written and graphical reports depicting development progress for management.
  • Stay current on developments in the Information Technology field through continued education.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to four years of college with coursework in computer science or related fields.
  • One year of professional experience in Application Services or a related IT field.
  • One year of professional experience creating queries using Windows Operating Systems, DB2, SQL Server, and Microsoft Office products.
  • One year of professional experience maintaining and performance tuning system databases using DB2 or AIX.
  • One year of professional experience producing technical documentation, including database designs and data flow diagrams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of relational database design and query analysis and optimization.
  • Working knowledge of TANF, SNAP, and Medical eligibility systems.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose system issues and coordinate efforts to resolve them.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills.
