About the position

The IL Specialist at Panhandle Independent Living Center is responsible for coordinating quality consumer care for individuals with disabilities. This role involves developing and monitoring independent living plans, ensuring proper documentation, and applying advanced clinical skills to support consumers in achieving their goals. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake services for consumers
• Assist consumers in establishing independent living plans
• Monitor goals and document progress for monthly demographic reports
• Ensure that proper documentation is completed each day for participating consumers including program progress, peer counseling, advocacy, IL skills and any other assistance given to consumers
• Maintain confidential and accurate consumer records for the full span of consumer case file
• Assist in the production of PILC needs assessment and other surveys
• Participate in community-wide disability projects as scheduling permits
• Attend training relative to disabilities, life skills, peer counseling, advocacy, and information and referral services

Requirements

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Experience working with people with disabilities
• Mid-level proficiency in American Sign Language
• Strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Effective communication skills
• Experience in teaching and training
• Proficient in computer networking and data entry

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in assisting consumers with disabilities to overcome personal and external barriers to independent living
• Knowledge of relevant cultural and disability issues
