The Imaging Service Assistant/Digital Library position at UC San Diego Health is a per diem role within the Radiology Administration department. This position is crucial in providing technical, patient care, and clerical support to technologists and radiologists. The primary responsibilities include scheduling procedures, processing radiographs, and transporting patients in preparation for radiographic procedures. The assistant will also be responsible for preparing radiographs for interpretation and downloading outside CDs into the Picture Archival Computer System (PACS). Additionally, the role involves operating film digitizing equipment, CD burners, document scanners, and similar accessories. The Imaging Service Assistant must demonstrate a solid understanding of computers and new technologies, including PACS, Computerized Radiography (CR), and Digital Radiographs (DR). Knowledge of various imaging procedures is essential to effectively prepare patients and equipment. The assistant will contribute to cost containment by maintaining established par levels for film orders, office supplies, forms, linen, and other medical supplies. Furthermore, the role includes participation in work organization and scheduling, selection, training, and evaluation of staff as part of a collaborative work team. Cross-training is also encouraged to ensure seamless operations within the Imaging Department. This position requires a commitment to obtaining necessary certifications, such as BART or BLS, within a specified timeframe. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in a similar role within a hospital Radiology Department setting, along with a working knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS). Strong computer skills and experience in quality control, safety control, and radioactive waste management are also required. Digital library experience and familiarity with medical terminology are preferred qualifications.
