About the position

The Long-term Substitute Teacher for Special Education at Whetstone Elementary School is responsible for providing direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities. This role involves collaboration with general education teachers, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, and assisting in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to support student learning.
• Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
• Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Adapt instructional programs and materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Requirements

• Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
• Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
• Experience in student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in a content area is desirable.
• Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) curriculum for the grade/content range of the position.
• Thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, and best instructional practices.
