About the position

The Long Term Substitute Teacher for World Language, specifically Spanish, at Magruder High School is responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students under the direction of the school principal. This role is crucial in creating an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring success for every individual. The teacher will supervise students in various school-related settings, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community. In this position, the teacher will develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the diverse needs of all students. Maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures and practices is essential. The teacher will also monitor the appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the MCPS curriculum, effective instructional practices, and techniques for integrating curriculum. They should be able to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education, infusing technology into the curriculum where appropriate. Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
• Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
• At least five years of full-time industry experience in the discipline to be taught within the last 10 years, or a bachelor's degree in education with demonstrated industry experience is required.
• Knowledge of MCPS curriculum and effective instructional practices.
• Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
