About the position

BadVR is currently seeking an Immersive UX/UI Designer to join our team. This role is pivotal in creating captivating and accessible user interfaces and experiences in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, a passion for good design, and a solid understanding of the Unity game engine and mobile platforms. As an Immersive UX/UI Designer, you will work closely with Unity engineers, technical artists, marketing, and product owners to deliver high-quality, immersive, and accessible user experiences. Your contributions will help shape the future of our platform, ensuring that our users can easily navigate and interact with our innovative data visualization and analytics tools. In this position, you will be responsible for guiding the design and development of user interfaces from concept through implementation. You will leverage your user experience skills to create intuitive and universally accessible designs. Your role will involve brainstorming, prototyping, and implementing designs that enhance user interaction with our products. You will be expected to communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process through compelling visual and verbal presentations, including stories, sketches, wireframes, and prototypes. Your ability to rationalize and justify design decisions will be crucial in advocating for the needs of our users. The Immersive UX/UI Designer will also be tasked with designing and developing new 3D UI concepts, creating interactive product interface demos, and collaborating with our development team to implement these designs effectively. You will contribute innovative ideas to all aspects of product design and development, ensuring that our immersive experiences are not only functional but also engaging and aesthetically pleasing. This position requires a deep understanding of human interface design principles and a commitment to usability and accessibility throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process through compelling designs and concepts.
  • Clearly rationalize and justify design work, advocating for users' needs.
  • Create compelling interactive product interface demos and prototypes.
  • Interpret and translate complex ideas and processes into simple and beautiful products, interfaces, and user experiences.
  • Design and develop new 3D UI concepts using real-time rendered motion effects.
  • Work directly with the development team to implement interactive menus and HUDs.
  • Contribute innovative ideas on all aspects of product design and development.
  • Design, document, prototype, and develop new user interfaces and user interactions for 3D/immersive experiences.
  • Source and create industry-level assets for new UX features and improvements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years as a UX designer, UI designer, or similar experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experience designing mixed reality, VR, desktop, mobile, or web applications.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles.
  • Knowledge and use of user testing to lead successful design and implementation.
  • Demonstrable mastery of design tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InVision).
  • Strong portfolio of previous work related to the design of immersive, interactive experiences.
  • Ability to prototype ideas in Adobe Suite and/or Unity.
  • Deep experience and passion for AR, MR, or spatial computing platforms.
  • Experience shipping augmented or mixed reality solutions (preferably enterprise).
  • Effective cross-discipline communicator and collaborator.
  • Experience designing interfaces for products shipped to Oculus Quest, Microsoft Hololens, and/or Magic Leap One platforms.
  • Proficiency in Unity 3D, with 1+ years of experience working with the Unity game engine.
  • Understanding of data structures, 3D math, C#, and the Unity asset and build pipeline.
  • Knowledgeable in Unity development best practices (prefabs, asset naming, organized scene hierarchy).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or similar tools.
  • Experience with data-related products and/or services.
  • Experience designing enterprise products (immersive or otherwise).
  • Experience traveling the world and immersing yourself in other cultures.
