About the position

Jia Law Group (JLG) is a leading boutique law firm headquartered in New York City, with additional branches in California and China. We are dedicated to providing top-notch legal services in immigration law and are currently seeking an experienced Immigration Paralegal who is bilingual in Mandarin Chinese to join our dynamic team. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to develop professionally in a versatile environment, gaining hands-on experience in immigration law and client management. The role is based in our modern office located in Flushing, Queens, and includes the possibility of visa sponsorship for the right candidate. As an Immigration Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting our attorneys and clients through various immigration processes. You will be responsible for conducting legal research, gathering pertinent information for case files, and responding to client inquiries. Your contributions will extend to drafting and reviewing legal documents, including affidavits, petitions, and correspondence, as well as managing family-based, asylum, and removal defense visa cases. You will prepare for and attend client meetings, hearings, and interviews, assisting clients with translations as needed. In addition to case management, you will communicate with clients about procedural updates and case processing, manage case statuses using our case management systems, and monitor client profiles for changes and business opportunities. You will also collaborate effectively within a team, communicating case progress and issues with attorneys, legal assistants, and the Business Development Department. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to participate in exciting projects with our Legal Tech team on AI product development, enhancing your professional growth and experience in the legal field.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting legal research and gathering pertinent information for case files.
  • Responding to client inquiries and contributing to consultations with both potential and existing clients.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents, including affidavits, petitions, and correspondence.
  • Drafting and managing family-based, asylum, and removal defense visa cases.
  • Preparing for and attending client meetings, hearings, and interviews, assisting clients with translations as needed.
  • Assisting attorneys with case intake, strategy development, and preparation of immigration applications and petitions.
  • Communicating with clients about procedural updates and case processing, managing case statuses using case management systems.
  • Monitoring client profiles for changes and business opportunities.
  • Updating client database with any changes in contact information.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team, communicating case progress and issues with attorneys, legal assistants, and the Business Development Department.
  • Participating in exciting projects with our Legal Tech team on AI product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
  • 1 year of experience in an office/corporate environment.
  • Legal experience preferred, not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse personalities within the firm.
