About the position

Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP (BAL) is seeking an Immigration Paralegal I to join our dynamic team in San Francisco, CA. As a Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys with the preparation, filing, and monitoring of various immigration and nationality law matters. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the immigration process and the ability to handle multiple case types while interacting with clients. You will be expected to thrive in a high-volume environment, demonstrating sound judgment and superior client service skills. In this role, you will take the lead in client communications under the direction of a Senior Paralegal or Attorney. You will provide guidance to clients regarding proprietary systems and case processing, ensuring that you have a deep understanding of client communication procedures and requirements. Your responsibilities will include processing advanced corporate immigration cases, preparing forms and documents for attorney review, and managing the status of all filed applications and petitions. You will also utilize document and data management systems to prepare and monitor client casework, ensuring compliance with BAL policies. As part of your duties, you will perform research to gather information relevant to cases, initiate contact with government agencies, and alert your team to any potential delays or problems. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree, at least one year of U.S. corporate immigration experience, and the ability to work independently while managing a caseload effectively. Responsibilities

  • Lead email and phone client communications under the direction of Senior Paralegal/Attorney.
  • Provide guidance to assignees regarding proprietary systems and case processing.
  • Input client services rendered and send to Accounting for processing.
  • Demonstrate increasing levels of independence in case handling and advance knowledge base.
  • Process advanced and varied corporate immigration cases.
  • Evaluate cases, relay concerns, and proactively escalate to appropriate BAL team members.
  • Prepare forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review.
  • Manage the status of all filed applications and petitions and finalize documents after attorney review.
  • Utilize document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework.
  • Prepare internal caseload reports for management.
  • Share process flow with assignees and identify problematic cases.
  • Perform research to obtain information relevant to cases and initiate contact with government agencies.

Requirements

  • At least 1+ year(s) of U.S. corporate immigration experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 1-year law-related experience under a licensed attorney, or a Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to catch errors and correct work.
  • Superior client service skills and ability to prioritize cases and tasks effectively.
  • Comfortable thriving in a high-volume environment and executing work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ability to learn and navigate proprietary software.

Nice-to-haves
