About the position

The Paralegal at BAL plays a crucial role in coordinating with Attorneys to manage various immigration and nationality law matters. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the immigration process and involves significant client interaction, ensuring that all case types are handled efficiently and effectively. The Paralegal is expected to demonstrate increasing independence in case handling while maintaining a high level of client service and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead email and phone communications with clients under the direction of a Senior Paralegal/Attorney.
  • Provide guidance to assignees regarding proprietary systems and case processing.
  • Input client services rendered and send to accounting for processing.
  • Demonstrate competence in previously handled case types and strive to broaden knowledge base.
  • Process advanced and varied corporate immigration cases.
  • Evaluate cases, relay concerns, and escalate issues to appropriate BAL team members.
  • Prepare forms, letters, documents, and correspondence for attorney review.
  • Manage the status of all filed applications and petitions, finalizing documents after attorney review.
  • Utilize document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record client casework as per BAL policy.
  • Prepare internal caseload reports for management.
  • Share process flow with assignees and identify problematic cases, discussing strategies with Attorneys.
  • Perform research to obtain necessary information regarding companies, industries, and processing procedures.
  • Initiate contact with government agencies to obtain necessary information and alert Senior Paralegal or attorney about potential delays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or PL certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • 1+ year of law-related experience under a licensed attorney.
  • At least 1+ year of U.S. corporate immigration experience.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to catch and correct errors.
  • Superior client service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize cases and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to learn proprietary software.
