About the position

The Immigration Services Assistant (Office Automation) position is located within the Service Center Operations Directorate, specifically in the Center Operations and Records Division (CORD). The role involves supporting the Adjudication Process by providing operational support, which includes researching and analyzing data to ensure the integrity of information, preparing reports, and managing the movement of electronic and physical files. This position is essential for maintaining accurate records and facilitating efficient processing of applications and submissions by USCIS customers.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-screen various applications and submissions by USCIS customers for accuracy and completeness of initial supporting documentation and eligibility for benefits.
  • Perform analysis on files, reports, and information systems and databases to update information and maintain data integrity.
  • Accurately scan documents to include applications and correspondence.
  • Maintain subject matter files, technical instructions, and operating procedures.
  • Edit and create documents/correspondence using office automation software (graphics, databases, spreadsheets, word processing).
  • Quality assurance of scanned items to ensure readability, completeness and verification of successful system upload.
  • Serve as records liaison by managing case files for reference, processing file movement requests, and conducting file audits.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National to apply for this position.
  • Successfully pass a Background Investigation including financial disclosure.
  • Must pass a drug screening.
  • Typing Certification: Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of general office automation software, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience performing complex office automation duties using word processing to edit and reformat correspondence and reports.
  • Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience responding to inquiries by phone and/or in writing.
