About the position

City/State Computer Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced ERP Implementation Project Manager to lead the implementation of a new ERP system for the City of Providence, RI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing software implementation projects, particularly in the areas of Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Budget, Accounts Payable, and Payroll solutions. This role requires overseeing all aspects of the project, from initial planning and development through to integration and user training, ensuring that the project remains within budget, scope, and timeline while meeting quality standards. The Project Manager will be responsible for defining the project scope, objectives, and deliverables, as well as assisting with the development of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of the ERP vendor/platform. The role involves collaborating with vendors to manage RFP responses, representing the City's interests, scheduling demonstrations, and organizing the selection process. The Project Manager will also need to organize a cross-departmental team to work on the project, develop a detailed project plan that includes timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, and manage project resources effectively by delegating tasks to team members. In addition to project planning and execution, the Project Manager will lead the selection, configuration, and customization of the ERP system, oversee its integration with existing systems, and develop a comprehensive testing plan. They will manage the data migration process and implement a change management plan to ensure user adoption of the new system, providing training and support to users while addressing any resistance to change. Communication is key in this role, as the Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact between the City of Providence and the chosen ERP vendor. They will maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including management, users, and vendors, and prepare and present regular project reports while identifying and reporting on project issues and risks. Budget management is also a critical aspect of this position, requiring the Project Manager to manage the project budget effectively and prepare and submit budget reports.

Responsibilities

  • Define the project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Assist with the development of an RFP for procurement of vendor/ERP platform.
  • Work with vendors to manage RFP responses, represent the City's interests, schedule demonstrations and organize a selection.
  • Organize a team across multiple departments to work on the project.
  • Develop a detailed project plan, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Manage project resources effectively and delegate tasks to team members.
  • Monitor progress, identify and mitigate risks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present status reports to stakeholders.
  • Lead the selection, configuration, and customization of the ERP system.
  • Oversee the integration of the new system with existing systems.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive testing plan.
  • Manage the data migration process.
  • Develop and implement a change management plan to ensure user adoption of the new system.
  • Provide training and support to users on the new system.
  • Manage resistance to change and address user concerns.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the City of Providence and the chosen ERP vendor.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including management, users, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, including ERP implementations.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with change management.
  • Deep understanding of ERP systems and their capabilities and implementation process, particularly Financial and HR systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience in software implementation.
