About the position

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is seeking a talented professional to join as an IMSA-Data and Electronics Engineer based in Daytona Beach, Florida. This position is crucial for overseeing electronics, telemetry, and data systems across multiple racing series and classes. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, integration, and support of data acquisition systems, ensuring that all electronic systems are managed effectively in collaboration with IMSA teams and suppliers. This role also involves assisting in the writing and revising of regulations, further developing enforcement methods, and scrutineering related systems. Key responsibilities include the development, implementation, and oversight of series-specific electronics, telemetry, and data acquisition systems. The engineer will interface directly with teams and suppliers for all IMSA series regarding data systems, telemetry, and electronics. They will administer policies as defined in the regulations related to these systems and will be responsible for organizing the setup, configuration, and operation of trackside engineering infrastructure. Additionally, the engineer will manage the collection, organization, and internal distribution of logged data, and will be tasked with writing and revising regulations while assisting stakeholders with regulation interpretation. This position requires approximately 50% travel, including weekends, to various racing events. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in motorsports, with a minimum of three years of experience in the field, and will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. The role is safety-sensitive and participates in the corporate Substance Abuse Program (SAP).

Responsibilities

  • Development, implementation, and oversight of series specific electronics, telemetry, and data acquisition systems.
  • Interface directly with teams and suppliers for all IMSA series on all data systems, telemetry, and electronics.
  • Administer policy as defined in the regulations related to data systems, telemetry, and electronics.
  • Organize setup, configuration, and operation of trackside engineering infrastructure.
  • Manage collection, organization, and internal distribution of logged data.
  • Responsible for writing and revising regulations, further developing enforcement methods, and scrutineering of related systems.
  • Assist stakeholders with regulation interpretation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years motorsports experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional motorsports experience required; team or manufacturer experience preferred.
  • Professional experience with motorsports data acquisition.
  • Understanding of vehicle systems and control systems.
  • Skilled with Excel, data interpreter platforms, and data logging configurators.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB preferred.
  • Experienced with both Controller Area Network (CAN) and IT network technologies.
  • Strong work ethic, unquestionable integrity, and commitment to excellence.
  • Adept at multitasking and project management.
  • Drive for highest quality work and data-driven decisions using solid engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Conversational French considered a plus.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Proficient on all Company provided hardware and software.
