About the position

The In-Home Outreach Counselor position is a vital role within the Healthcare Systems & Services industry, specifically designed for individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish. This position is based in Los Angeles, California, and focuses on providing comprehensive in-home counseling and support to families, particularly those with children. The counselor will conduct thorough psycho-social assessments using a standardized in-home tool to evaluate the well-being and safety of children in their home environment. This role requires a compassionate and skilled individual who can effectively engage with families, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to enhance their overall family function. In this position, the counselor will be responsible for delivering in-home counseling, parent education, and case management services. This includes crisis intervention, child-focused activities, and role modeling as a supportive adult figure. The counselor will regularly meet with families to assess their needs and the safety of the children, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the MCPC case plan. Additionally, the counselor will be tasked with completing various administrative duties to track progress and report activities, ensuring that all documentation, including progress notes and monthly reports, is completed accurately and on time. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in human services, with a minimum of two years of experience working with children and families. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, while a master's degree is preferred. The ability to communicate fluently in both Spanish and English is essential for this role, as is a valid California driver's license and a personal vehicle that meets the insurance requirements set by Hillsides. The counselor must also demonstrate the ability to build respectful relationships with clients, being sensitive to the cultural needs of the families they serve.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psycho-social assessments using a standardized in-home tool.
  • Assess the well-being and safety of children within the home environment.
  • Provide in-home counseling and parent education.
  • Teach and demonstrate effective parenting techniques.
  • Manage cases and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Engage in child-focused activities and role modeling as a supportive adult.
  • Regularly assess family and home for child safety and risk issues as per the MCPC case plan.
  • Complete all necessary documentation timely and accurately, including progress notes and monthly reports.
  • Maintain client case files and provide weekly case notes to the Program Coordinator.
  • Report mileage and other administrative tasks by due dates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services specialty.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with children and their families.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Personal vehicle insurance acceptable to Hillsides insurance carrier.
  • Ability to nurture respectful relationships with clients and children.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural needs of the population.
