About the position

The In-House Counsel at Regional One Health will provide legal support under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, focusing on contracts and transactional matters within the healthcare system. This role involves drafting, negotiating, and executing various agreements while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews legal documents for SCHCC.
  • Reviews, drafts, and negotiates contracts that come for legal review to the Office of General Counsel.
  • Participates in structuring, negotiating, and documenting complex financial transactions.
  • Works with various institutional departments/constituents to review, draft, and negotiate all clinical and educational affiliation agreements.
  • Conducts legal research and drafts legal memoranda on issues affecting the hospital and its affiliates.
  • Advises institutional constituents regarding transactional, regulatory, health, benefits, insurance, employment, and labor laws.
  • Ensures compliance with transactions and general corporate legal matters.
  • Assists with other projects/duties as assigned by the SVP/Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.
  • Represents the Corporate Legal Department on appropriate hospital committees as directed by the SVP/Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.
  • Coordinates and performs daily administrative functions of the legal department.
  • Handles administrative matters and ensures that activities/projects are implemented in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates filing of annual reports, prepares renewal information and premium schedules.
  • Responds to requests for information from government agencies as well as departments within the organization as directed by the SVP/Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.
  • Documents and maintains up-to-date records of projects/activities.
  • Reviews and processes contract proposals/agreements, claims, applications, forms, correspondence and other documents to ensure that required information is accurate and complete.
  • Maintains accurate information systems, databases and tracking systems in accordance with contract management, insurance, claims and other agency requirements and criteria.
  • Maintains current awareness of requirements for data collection and ensures compliance.
  • Keeps management informed of any issues/concerns which require intervention.
  • Serves as administrative liaison and works collaboratively with other departments, medical/hospital staff, and outside attorneys or agencies in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Provides research and administrative support to special projects, preparing data, reports, and follows-up on projects.
  • Prepares and maintains required corporate documents, reports, records, files, logs and attendance records; collates and assembles reports and documents as required for operational, administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Utilizes computer and information systems to enter format and retrieve data, generate statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Monitors and maintains budget records.
  • Requisitions and maintains office supplies.

Requirements

  • Law Degree (J.D. or L.L.B.) from an accredited school of law and current Tennessee license.
  • At least 5 years of transactional experience either as in-house counsel or with a law firm advising corporate and healthcare clients.
