About the position

The In-Store Bakery Sales Director position is a fully remote role based in the Western United States, specifically targeting candidates from the West Central to West Coast regions. This role is pivotal in managing existing retail accounts and expanding the customer base to achieve sales quotas for Cafe Valley, a company renowned for its high-quality baked goods including muffins, cakes, and pastries. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the product portfolio and ensuring the attainment of sales goals, which involves creating new selling opportunities and managing account relationships effectively. In this role, the Sales Director will develop and implement retail marketing programs tailored to the needs of key retailers, providing solid direction and leadership to broker partners regarding objectives and profitability expectations. The position requires accurate and timely sales reporting, focusing on profitable growth and identifying service level challenges while developing actionable plans to address them. The Sales Director will also be responsible for scheduling products to support sales and optimal production, interpreting market data and trends, and providing pricing guides for all requests for proposals (RFPs). Collaboration is key in this role, as the Sales Director will work closely with the entire sales team to identify annual sales objectives that support margin growth, while also analyzing key performance indicators such as VCM, ROI, and KPIs. The position demands a strong understanding of regional market trends to discover new growth opportunities and the ability to work on cross-functional teams, including Customer Service, R&D, Finance, and Marketing. Travel is a requirement for this position, emphasizing the need for a candidate who is adaptable and willing to engage with various stakeholders across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall product portfolio and attainment of sales goals.
  • Create new selling opportunities focused on current accounts and new account development.
  • Develop effective retail pull-thru marketing programs to support key retailers.
  • Provide direction and leadership to Broker Partners on objectives and profitability expectations.
  • Conduct accurate and timely weekly sales reporting focused on profitable growth.
  • Drive margin results that exceed the plan.
  • Identify and communicate service level challenges and develop action plans.
  • Direct scheduling of products to support sales and optimal production.
  • Interpret market data and trends.
  • Provide pricing guides for all RFPs.
  • Collaborate with the sales team on identifying annual sales objectives that support margin growth.
  • Measure and analyze key performance indicators (VCM, ROI, and KPIs).
  • Develop sales budgets and understand costing models.
  • Analyze regional market trends and discover new opportunities for growth.
  • Work on cross-functional teams including Customer Service, R&D, Finance, and Marketing.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in consumer-packaged goods sales and/or food industry.
  • Experience calling on key supermarket retailers and distributors.
  • Experience managing food brokers.
  • Ability to develop presentations and manage budgets.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced industry.
  • Capability to collaborate with coworkers and customers to create a positive work environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with a problem-solving attitude.
