About the position

The Income Maintenance Caseworker II position within the Food and Nutrition Unit at the Department of Social Services is responsible for processing applicants' eligibility for Food and Nutrition Services and Energy Assistance programs. This role involves maintaining an active caseload, conducting reviews, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. The caseworker will assist clients in understanding their eligibility and provide support to help them achieve self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial intake and process applicants' eligibility for Food and Nutrition Services and Energy Assistance programs.
• Maintain an ongoing active caseload and perform regular reviews.
• Monitor compliance with program requirements and respond to client inquiries regarding eligibility.
• Close cases when clients are no longer eligible for services.
• Provide support and motivation to clients to achieve self-sufficiency.
• Perform duties as outlined in the Macon County Department of Social Services Shelter Management Manual and other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of relevant experience.
• For IMC II: One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or equivalent training and experience.
• Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and the public.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a public contact role involving negotiation and data analysis.
• Knowledge of community programs and services that affect clients.
