About the position

The Income Maintenance Caseworker I position at Macon County's Department of Social Services involves conducting initial intake and re-certification interviews for clients seeking economic services. The role requires a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations to ensure clients receive the benefits they are entitled to while minimizing errors. The caseworker will also provide support to clients to help them achieve self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial intake interviews and re-certification interviews for clients.
  • Assess client needs and explain applicable programs and requirements.
  • Make proper referrals and respond to clients' emotional or physical states with respect and trust.
  • Implement federal and state regulations to ensure clients receive entitled benefits.
  • Perform duties as outlined in the Shelter Management Manual and other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum.
  • High school graduation with two years of relevant experience, including one year in an income maintenance program, or three years of relevant experience without specific income maintenance experience.
  • Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and the public.

Nice-to-haves
