About the position

The Income Maintenance Caseworker I position at the Macon County Department of Social Services involves conducting initial intake and re-certification interviews for clients seeking economic services. The role requires knowledge of available programs and the ability to motivate clients towards self-sufficiency while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The caseworker will assess client needs, explain program requirements, and manage data input using the NC FAST system.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial intake interviews and re-certification interviews for clients.
• Assess client needs and explain applicable programs and requirements.
• Make proper referrals and respond to clients' emotional or physical states with respect and trust.
• Implement federal and state regulations to ensure clients receive entitled benefits.
• Perform duties as outlined in the Macon County Department of Social Services Shelter Management Manual if required.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum.
• Graduation from high school and two years of relevant experience, including one year in an income maintenance program, or three years of relevant experience without specific income maintenance experience.
• Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and the public.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in social services or public assistance programs.
• Familiarity with NC FAST or similar data management systems.
