About the position

The Income Tax Accountant position at Honda is crucial for ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with income tax liabilities. This role involves preparing federal and state income tax returns, quarterly and year-end tax provisions, and ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. The accountant will leverage their expertise to navigate complex tax issues and contribute to Honda's commitment to corporate social responsibility and quality management.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare complete and accurate federal income tax returns and state income tax workpapers for AHM and/or AHM and Subs/Affiliates, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end consolidated and/or separate company income tax provisions and schedules by deadlines set by Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
  • Research new business activities and general ledger accounts to determine tax impacts and develop new processes and calculations.
  • Ensure tax provision processes and documentation meet IAS 12, ASC 740, and SOX Section 404 requirements.
  • Prepare quarterly income tax estimates and annual income tax extensions for AHM and/or AHM and Subs, applying professional judgement to forecast taxable income.
  • Complete additional assignments such as researching issues, responding to tax notices, assisting in IRS or state income tax audits, and maintaining the Tax Calendar.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field (required)
  • CPA certificate preferred (equivalent experience acceptable)
  • Master's Degree in Tax a plus
  • 3+ years work experience in a medium to large sized CPA firm (min of 2 years in Tax preferred) and/or Tax Dept of a medium to large size multi-state corporation
  • Experience preparing federal and multi-state corporate income tax returns
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi-state income tax laws and rules
  • Good accounting skills and understanding of accounting systems
  • Proficient in electronic tax research (Checkpoint/CCH), tax return preparation software (OneSource Tax Provision and Income Tax), and Microsoft applications (Excel and Word)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Alteryx and Microsoft Power Platform
  • Working knowledge of business combinations and eliminations
  • Working knowledge of federal and state credits and business incentives
  • Working knowledge of IAS 12 and ASC 740
