Responsibilities
- Research and analyze court case appeals, court rulings, tax statutes, and regulations to prepare for hearings.
- Communicate with taxpayers, their representatives, and attorneys regarding the Income Tax Act and applicable case law.
- Represent the Illinois Department of Revenue in litigation hearings and status conferences involving income tax disputes.
- Collaborate with supervisors to resolve complex cases involving compliance and statutory interpretation.
- Assist higher-level staff in conducting litigation cases and hearings related to taxes administered by IDOR.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized law school.
- Possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
- Two years of experience with judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
- Two years of experience working on cases involving state and federal laws related to administrative functions.
- Two years of litigation experience.
- Two years of experience analyzing legal documents and preparing for administrative hearings.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience using primary and secondary legal source materials for legal analysis.
- Experience in presenting complex material in written form such as briefs and research reports.
