About the position

The Individual Support & Community Specialist role involves working directly with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day program setting. The position focuses on providing person-centered support that promotes confidentiality, human dignity, and the overall well-being of individuals, enabling them to lead self-directed lives. The specialist will advocate for justice, fairness, and community participation while fostering respectful relationships with individuals and team members.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Promote confidentiality, privacy, and human dignity.
• Support individuals in leading self-directed lives.
• Help individuals develop and maintain relationships.
• Advocate for justice, fairness, and equity in community participation.
• Demonstrate respect, integrity, and responsibility towards individuals and the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 6 months experience working with adults with disabilities.
• Valid NYS driver's license required.
• Must maintain current required certifications including AMAP, SCIP-R, and First Aid/CPR.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a sheltered workshop setting, vocational program, day habilitation, or day treatment program.
• Basic computer literacy, including use of email and Microsoft Office.
