About the position

As an Architectural Designer at Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC), you will play a pivotal role in contributing to a variety of design projects within our innovative Industrial Design practice. This position requires a collaborative spirit, as you will work closely with colleagues across various disciplines within LJC and our parent company, Clayco, to ensure the successful delivery of projects from initial design concepts through to final completion. Your contributions will not only support the leadership team but also help expand our presence and portfolio in Chicago through intentional project pursuits and the cultivation of client relationships. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality project outcomes, conducting thorough analyses of various data sets, and developing and documenting design and urban planning concepts. You will create compelling project presentations and coordinate with a multi-disciplinary design team to ensure that all aspects of the project align with client expectations and regulatory requirements. Your role will also involve assisting with project management tasks and serving as a key liaison for clients, providing technical assistance on planning, urban design, and site design across a variety of project types and scales. You will represent LJC in meetings with both public and private-sector clients, including governmental entities, and engage with the community at civic events. Familiarity with public engagement tools and processes will be essential as you develop intentional civic and public engagement strategies. Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects from design concept through final completion of deliverables and submissions with a high level of quality.
  • Conduct analysis of various data sets and develop and document design and urban planning concepts.
  • Create project presentations and coordinate with a multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Assist with project management and serve as a key client liaison.
  • Provide technical assistance on planning, the regulatory environment, urban design, and site design for various project types and scales.
  • Attend meetings with public- and private-sector clients, including governmental entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant, demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstrated competence with AutoCAD/Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, and 3D modeling tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to graphically explain ideas.
  • Competent presentation skills.
  • Consistent understanding of the delivery and implementation of design thinking.
