The Industrial Coating Specialist position at SRP involves performing painting and industrial coating applications on various equipment and products under limited supervision. This role is crucial for maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of SRP's infrastructure, which includes tanks, power plants, microwave stations, fences, substations, transformers, and power poles. The specialist will utilize various tools such as brushes, rollers, and spray guns to achieve high-quality finishes. Additionally, the role requires the application of metallized coatings using thermal spray processes, ensuring that all surface preparations are completed prior to coating or painting. This includes using paint removal equipment like sand and shot blasting tools, scrapers, and other necessary equipment. The position also entails mixing paints and coatings to meet specified requirements, maintaining an inventory of paints and supplies, and preparing detailed work reports regarding paint usage and environmental considerations. Safety is a paramount concern, and the specialist is responsible for their own safety as well as that of others, ensuring that all work is performed in a cost-effective manner. The role may also involve directing the work of others and requires the ability to perform accurate cost estimates and project schedules. The specialist must maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and customers, understand and carry out detailed instructions, and be prepared to work varying schedules, including potential overtime. This position is temporary and may require the employee to be on call 24/7, reflecting the dynamic nature of the work environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work safely and efficiently, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform painting and industrial coating applications on various equipment and products.
  • Lay out and perform new and maintenance exterior or interior finish quality painting on tanks, power plants, microwave stations, fences, substations, transformers, and switching equipment.
  • Apply metallized coatings using thermal spray process.
  • Perform complete surface preparation prior to coating or painting, using paint removal equipment, including sand and shot blasting, scrapers, etc.
  • Mix paints and coatings to meet specified requirements.
  • Lay out and perform incidental parking lot restriping.
  • Order and maintain stock of paints, coatings, and supplies.
  • Prepare work reports and field and shop environmental paint and related products usage reports.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of others while accomplishing work in a cost-effective manner.
  • Perform accurate cost estimates and project schedules on job-related work.
  • Direct the work of others in the performance of duties as required.

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience as a 2nd Class Painter or General Mechanic in Mechanical Services, or equivalent experience.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Operator's license and DOT certification.
  • Required to become certified on various pieces of equipment, including personnel lifting equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to employ safe working practices under all working conditions.
  • Ability to understand, carry out, and explain detailed oral and written instructions, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform work functions without direct supervision.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to effectively work under varying schedules, imposed deadlines, and emergency conditions.
  • Ability to understand job costs and work within a budget allocation.
