About the position

At TC Energy, we are committed to transitioning North America to cleaner energy while meeting the energy demands of today and tomorrow. The Industrial Control System and Cybersecurity Engineer will be part of the Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) organization, which is dedicated to maximizing the value of the company's facilities assets across North America. This role is crucial in developing fit-for-purpose technical standards and asset management strategies that balance risk, asset performance, and cost. The FRIES organization also provides escalated subject matter expert (SME) support to resolve complex engineering challenges and support operations and project engineering functions. The Industrial Controls & Cybersecurity (IC&C) team within FRIES is composed of engineering SMEs with deep technical expertise on systems and equipment core to gas facilities processes. The IC&C team has four primary accountabilities: serving as the technical authority for engineering standards, providing Tier 3 (escalated) engineering support to operations, developing asset management strategies, and supporting project engineering functions. The selected candidate will be responsible for architecting, providing installation assistance, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICS networks across TC Energy's North American footprint. This includes developing procedures, processes, integrity plans, and training to ensure ICS networks are reliable and supportable by field personnel, while also ensuring the cyber security of ICS assets through patching, end-of-life integrity plans, and defense-in-depth architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, install, maintain, and troubleshoot TC Energy's Industrial Control System (ICS) facility networks across North America.
  • Provide Tier 3 subject matter expertise to field teams, helping them identify and resolve problems, analyze malfunctions, make modifications or repairs, and offer technical assistance.
  • Maintain Asset Management Plans, Integrity Plans, and Facility Management Plans for ICS network assets.
  • Provide technical guidance, instruction, and assistance related to the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modifications of ICS networks involving HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics equipment.
  • Train ICS personnel on practices necessary to meet Cyber Security requirements, effectively troubleshoot and maintain ICS networks, and implement new asset types.
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities, risk-rank them, and help formulate remediation steps.
  • Implement and perform firmware and patching upgrades for all ICS hardware and software.
  • Help track and record firmware and patching levels for ICS hardware and software, including PLCs, switches, protocol converters, VFDs, soft starters, RTUs, flow meters, chromatographs, thin clients, and HMI software.
  • Manage TC Energy's ICS adherence to Cyber Security policies and standards, and ensure compliance with applicable mandates.
  • Perform engineering or engineering-related studies.

Requirements

  • Industry and technical knowledge in gas facilities industrial control systems.
  • Experience in architecting, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICS networks.
  • Strong understanding of Cyber Security requirements and practices related to ICS.
  • Ability to develop procedures, processes, integrity plans, and training for ICS networks.
  • Experience in providing technical guidance and training to personnel.
  • Knowledge of firmware and patching processes for ICS hardware and software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics equipment.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and vulnerability management in ICS environments.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the energy sector.
