We are seeking Industrial Controls Engineers at all levels to join our Hardware R&D team within the Industrial Controls organization. In this role, you will contribute to the development and implementation of industrial control systems, ensuring they meet customer requirements and site-specific needs. You will also provide guidance and support to the automation hardware engineering staff within the Hardware R&D group as necessary. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various engineering teams within our organization, including electrical, mechanical, robot, and vision teams. You will work with cutting-edge technologies in the warehouse automation and material handling industries, including AI and Machine Learning. The Hardware R&D, Industrial Controls team specializes in developing and optimizing industrial control systems to enhance the efficiency and functionality of our automation solutions. Your responsibilities will include defining and planning technical tasks related to research and development projects, prioritizing innovative development efforts to advance industrial control technology. You will lead Industrial Controls Network Design, including IT/OT, plan VLAN/NAT architecture, and deploy switch configurations. Additionally, you will spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications, leveraging advanced techniques and tools to drive innovation. You will oversee the execution of test strategies tailored to R&D projects to validate and refine developments, collaborate on developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems, and document standard code library and final control system programming. Active participation in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures will be essential, as will conducting thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. You will also document research findings, development processes, and simulation results to capture valuable insights and facilitate knowledge sharing within the R&D team.

Responsibilities

  • Define and plan technical tasks related to research and development projects.
  • Lead Industrial Controls Network Design, both IT/OT.
  • Plan VLAN/NAT architecture and deploy switch configurations.
  • Spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications.
  • Oversee the execution of test strategies tailored to R&D projects.
  • Collaborate on developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems.
  • Document standard code library and final control system programming.
  • Participate in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Document research findings, development processes, and simulation results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of Design and Implementation of Industrial Control Systems using PLC, HMIs, Industrial Robotics, and VFD/Servo Drives.
  • 5+ years in ground-up Programming of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems (Rockwell Automation products preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge in network topology and design (OT Network, VLAN, NAT, Switch configuration).
  • Knowledge of Power Systems and Servo Controls to design motion control systems.
  • Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture.
  • Expert level experience in Rockwell PLC's (ControlLogix, GuardLogix).
  • Expert level of Industrial Automation network technology.
  • Experience developing and programming HMI applications (Ignition8, FactoryTalk ME/SE).
  • Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated systems.
  • Experience with JIRA and agile methodology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in Inductive Automation products is a plus.
