Industrial Design Engineer, Last Mile Engineering

About the position

Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Designer to lead automation and material handling equipment (MHE) initiatives of developing next generation, world-class Last Mile transportation building designs. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. Your projects will be a variety of delivery station concepts and template-based design solutions that will enhance the effectiveness of Amazon's last mile network. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Ability to travel 40% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal automation/MHE equipment design solutions for the last mile network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
• Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.
• Manage projects and tasks while effectively influencing and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
• Provide technical expertise for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits and building designs.
• Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision and specific technical solutions detailed on the organizational road map.
• Ability to travel up to 40% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (or equivalent related experience)
• 3+ years Experience in Mechanical Engineering or Facility design with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
• 3+ years Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
• 3+ years Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
• 3+ years Experience with ownership/management of engineering design projects.
• 3+ years Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (or equivalent related experience)
• Experience in design of warehouses and integration of Automated Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and/or Robotics.
