About the position
The Industrial Engine Technician I/II position at Eastern Municipal Water District involves performing skilled duties related to the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, overhaul, maintenance, repair, and servicing of large industrial stationary engines, including natural gas and diesel powered drive systems. The role requires working under supervision, with responsibilities increasing in complexity and independence as the technician progresses from I to II. The position also includes on-call duties, which may involve emergency call-outs and weekend work.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, overhaul, maintain, and repair large industrial stationary engines.
- Troubleshoot controllers and sensors related to engine management systems.
- Perform minor and major repairs and overhauls on engines and related equipment.
- Calibrate and replace sensors and input devices in engine management controls.
- Operate and test stationary and portable generators, ensuring proper operation of related equipment.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and District policies.
Requirements
- Two years of skilled experience in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, overhauling, and repair of large industrial stationary engines for Industrial Engine Technician I.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience for Industrial Engine Technician II, or two years as equivalent to an Industrial Engine Technician I with the District.
- Valid California driver's license, Class A with hazmat and tank endorsements, or ability to obtain within twelve months of hire.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with microprocessor-based engine controllers and PID loop controllers.
- Knowledge of gas analysis theory and practices related to natural gas engines.
- Familiarity with machine shop practices and procedures.
