About the position
The Industrial Engineer at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) will play a crucial role in supporting process improvement activities within the Perioperative and Procedural Services. This position is integral to enhancing workflow performance in the department responsible for cleaning and sterilizing surgical devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role involves collaboration with a diverse team in a high-volume academic medical center, focusing on optimizing operations across various surgical and procedural suites.
Responsibilities
- Support process improvement activities in the Perioperative and Procedural Services.
- Enhance workflow performance in the cleaning and sterilization department.
- Collaborate with clinical and support staff to optimize procedures.
- Analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions for operational efficiency.
- Facilitate team leadership and collaboration among various departments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, business, MHA, or a related field.
- Four years of experience in lean/process improvement/process redesign (preferred).
- Team leadership and facilitation experience.
- Industrial engineering experience (preferred).
- Strong critical thinking skills to analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively with various audiences.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Health care experience is a plus.
