About the position

At BAE Electronic Systems, you will be at the forefront of innovation, working on advanced electronics that play a crucial role in aerospace and defense. This position focuses on providing technical support to the Manufacturing Operations Surface Mount Technology (SMT) area, where you will enable and improve the flow of products through manufacturing processes. Your expertise in industrial and mechanical engineering will be essential as you guide the SMT group in optimizing processes and materials. You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on SMT processes and materials, particularly for the Cedar Rapids Facility, and will be responsible for defining technical problems and solutions within the manufacturing environment. In this role, you will interface with design engineering to incorporate changes that enhance manufacturability. You will analyze capacity and capability within the SMT area, conducting studies related to cost control and inventory management through Lean principles. Your responsibilities will include determining the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow, establishing methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel, and performing assignments that require the application of engineering economics and product development principles. The position requires a blend of independent and collaborative work, and it is conducted entirely on-site, allowing you to engage directly with the manufacturing processes and teams. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing Operations in the SMT area.
  • Enable and improve the flow of product through manufacturing processes.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on SMT processes and materials.
  • Conduct capacity and capability analysis for the SMT area.
  • Interface with design engineering to improve manufacturability.
  • Determine efficient sequences of operations and workflow.
  • Establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
  • Conduct studies for cost control and inventory management using Lean principles.
  • Perform assignments using engineering economics and product development techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (preferred).
  • 2+ years of work experience in a relevant field.
  • 1+ years of experience in Electronics Manufacturing or a similar environment.
  • Ability to obtain Secret Level Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting stencil printing, pick and place, AOI AXI, and solder application equipment.
  • Detailed knowledge of SMT industry standards such as IPC-610 and J-Std-001.
  • Experience with New Production Introduction (NPI) and design evaluation for DFM through SMT processes.
  • Familiarity with Valor or similar software tools.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis equipment and techniques (SIR, FTIR, SEM, X-ray, etc.).
  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting automated equipment (Fuji/Nexim is a plus).
  • Experience in capital equipment specification, purchase, and integration.
  • Tool and fixture design experience.
  • Lean and Six Sigma certification.
