About the position

In this role at BAE Electronic Systems, you will be providing essential technical support to the Manufacturing Operations Surface Mount Technology (SMT) area. Your primary focus will be on enabling and improving the flow of products through manufacturing by utilizing your expertise in industrial and mechanical engineering. This position requires you to offer technical guidance and leadership to the SMT group, ensuring that processes and materials are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness. You will be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert on SMT processes and materials specifically for the Cedar Rapids Facility. Your responsibilities will include conducting data analysis and process improvement initiatives within the SMT areas, as well as performing capacity and capability analysis to enhance operational performance. You will be tasked with defining technical problems and developing solutions within the manufacturing environment, collaborating closely with design engineering to incorporate changes that improve manufacturability. Additionally, you will determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow, establishing methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel. You will also conduct studies related to cost control, cost reduction, and inventory management through the application of Lean principles. Understanding how facility design and layout impact economic factors, process flow, and operator efficiency will be crucial in your role. This position involves a blend of independent and collaborative work, and it is expected to be conducted 100% on-site, allowing you to engage directly with the manufacturing processes and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing Operations Surface Mount Technology (SMT) area.
  • Enable and improve the flow of product through manufacturing.
  • Offer technical guidance and leadership to the SMT group for processes and materials.
  • Conduct data analysis and process improvement in SMT areas.
  • Perform capacity and capability analysis for the SMT area.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on SMT processes and materials for the Cedar Rapids Facility.
  • Define technical problems and develop solutions in the manufacturing environment.
  • Interface with design engineering to incorporate changes that improve manufacturability.
  • Determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow.
  • Establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
  • Conduct studies related to cost control, cost reduction, and inventory control using Lean principles.
  • Understand the impact of facility design and layout on economic factors and operator efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's STEM Degree (preferred)
  • 2 Years work experience
  • 1 Year of Electronics Manufacturing or similar experience
  • Ability to obtain Secret Level Security Clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Programming and troubleshooting stencil printing, pick and place, AOI AXI, and solder application equipment.
  • Detailed knowledge of SMT industry standards such as IPC-610, J-Std-001, and other SMT industry standard documentation.
  • Experience with New Production Introduction (NPI) and evaluation of new designs for DFM through SMT processes.
  • Valor or similar software tool experience.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis equipment and techniques such as SIR, FTIR, SEM, X-ray, etc.
  • Programming and troubleshooting automated equipment, with Fuji/Nexim experience being a plus.
  • Capital equipment specification, purchase, and integration experience.
  • Tool and fixture design experience.
  • Lean and Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Cpk capability studies, Gage R&R, and data analysis experience.
