About the position

Mueller Water Products is seeking an Industrial Engineer II to join our quality department at the Chattanooga, TN Plant. As the nation's leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries, we pride ourselves on being North America's largest and only full-line supplier of potable water distribution products. This position is crucial for the operational excellence of our manufacturing processes and will report directly to the Operational Excellence Manager. The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for a variety of functions that are essential to maintaining and improving our manufacturing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The primary functions of this role include conducting work measurement and time studies to ensure the accuracy of manufacturing costs, developing and maintaining cost routings within the company's ERP system, and optimizing processes through lean initiatives. The Industrial Engineer will also be tasked with maintaining the Value Stream Map for the plant, developing Standard Work documents for new processes, and providing data to assist in the development of strategic plant goals related to lean principles. This role will require collaboration with employees to instill the fundamentals of lean principles using various process improvement tools and methodologies such as DMAIC, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 6S, and SMED. In addition, the Industrial Engineer will support the implementation of machine monitoring and Industry 4.0 initiatives, develop and deliver presentations and training, and assist in the documentation and standardization of best practices. Benchmarking various manufacturing activities between plants and with industry standards will also be a key responsibility. The role may involve preparing workstation and work area layouts for new, revised, or proposed procedures and equipment, as well as managing projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work measurement time studies to ensure accuracy of manufacturing cost.
  • Create and maintain cost routings within the company ERP system.
  • Maintain the Value Stream Map for the plant.
  • Develop Standard Work documents for new processes and maintain existing standard work.
  • Provide data and assist in the development of strategic plant goals related to lean principles.
  • Support business case analysis for capital expenditures.
  • Assist employees in the fundamentals of lean principles using appropriate process improvement tools and methodologies including DMAIC, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 6S, and SMED.
  • Support implementation of machine monitoring and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and training.
  • Support documentation and standardization of best practices.
  • Benchmark various manufacturing activities between plants and with industry standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of workstation and work area layout for new, revised, or proposed procedures and equipment.
  • Manage projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or similar discipline.
  • Entry level to 5 years' experience.
  • Desire to learn and apply LEAN Six Sigma tools, techniques, and processes.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Greenbelt is beneficial.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting goals and objectives.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Mini-tab.
