About the position

The Industrial Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands will engage in a hands-on internship experience focused on enhancing operational efficiency, reducing waste, and improving ergonomics within the manufacturing environment. This internship is set to take place on-site in North Brunswick, NJ during the Summer of 2025. The intern will work closely with the engineering team, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, and will be involved in various projects that contribute to the overall productivity and effectiveness of the engineering department. The role will involve collaborating with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities for improvement and to understand the change processes necessary for implementing these improvements. The intern will be responsible for administering change processes related to specific projects, which may include tasks such as line balancing, workstation design, and process improvement initiatives. The intern will also be tasked with establishing and maintaining project plans and deliverables, ensuring that all objectives are met in a timely manner. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a large manufacturing operation, allowing the intern to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. The intern will have the chance to learn from seasoned professionals in the field, gaining insights into the complexities of industrial engineering within a leading manufacturing company.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in projects focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and ergonomics.
  • Partner with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Administer change processes related to assigned projects.
  • Identify, select, and implement projects such as workstation design or process improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain project plans and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in industrial engineering or a related field.
  • Junior standing or above is required.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and kaizen is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills are preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
