About the position

The Industrial Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is an on-site internship located in North Brunswick, NJ, scheduled for the Summer of 2025. This role is designed for students pursuing a degree in industrial engineering or a related field, and it offers a unique opportunity to engage in projects that focus on enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving ergonomics within the manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with the engineering team, sharing workspace and collaborating on various departmental deliverables. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the intern will be involved in hands-on projects that are critical to the operational success of the facility. The internship will involve potential projects such as line balancing, waste reduction initiatives, and ergonomic enhancements at workstations. The intern will partner with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities for improvement and to understand the change processes involved in implementing these projects. Responsibilities will include administering the change process related to assigned projects, selecting and implementing specific projects such as workstation designs or process improvements, and establishing and maintaining project plans and deliverables. This role is not only about applying theoretical knowledge but also about gaining practical experience in a large manufacturing operation, where the intern will receive mentorship from seasoned engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Deliverables related to projects focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and ergonomics.
  • Potential projects include line balancing, waste reduction, and workstation ergonomic enhancements.
  • Partner with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities and understand change processes.
  • Administer change processes related to assigned projects.
  • Identify, select, and implement a project such as a workstation design or process improvement project.
  • Establish and maintain the project plan and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in industrial engineering or a related field is required.
  • Junior standing or above is required.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and kaizen is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills are preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
