About the position

The Industrial Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is an on-site internship located in North Brunswick, NJ, scheduled for the Summer of 2025. This role is designed for students pursuing a degree in industrial engineering or a related field, and it offers a unique opportunity to engage in projects that focus on enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving ergonomics within the manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with the engineering team, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, and will be involved in various departmental deliverables and projects that are critical to the operations of the facility. As part of the internship, the intern will have the chance to participate in potential projects that may include line balancing, waste reduction initiatives, and workstation ergonomic enhancements. The intern will partner with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities for improvement and to understand the change processes involved in implementing these projects. Responsibilities will include administering the change process related to assigned projects, identifying and selecting specific projects such as workstation design or process improvement initiatives, and establishing and maintaining project plans and deliverables. This hands-on experience will provide valuable insights into the workings of a large manufacturing operation and the role of industrial engineering in optimizing processes and enhancing productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in projects focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and ergonomics.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team on departmental deliverables.
  • Partner with a Senior Engineer to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Administer change processes related to assigned projects.
  • Identify, select, and implement specific projects such as workstation design or process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in industrial engineering or a related field.
  • Junior standing or above is required.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and kaizen is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills are preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
