About the position

The Industrial Engineer/Logistics Intern position at Daimler Truck North America offers students an opportunity to gain practical experience in the Transmission and Axle Production and Logistics department. Interns will engage in continuous improvement activities related to production and logistics, working closely with supervisors and team members to optimize processes. This internship is designed for high-performing individuals and may lead to a full-time position based on evaluations and business needs. The role requires on-site work at the Detroit location, emphasizing safety, quality, and efficiency in production metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement activities in production and logistics.
  • Confirm cycle time and utilization for production and logistics jobs.
  • Optimize manpower utilization in production and logistics.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team leaders to enhance line and logistics processes.
  • Participate in Practical Problem Solving discussions to address systemic issues.
  • Develop flexible manpower plans to accommodate varying shift models.
  • Assist in projects to phase out aging lines and ramp up new lines, ensuring operational targets are met.
  • Drive digitalization efforts by coordinating with the Tech Lab to create visualization tools for business KPIs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's/PhD Program from an accredited college/university or graduated within the last 12 months.
  • Preferred majors include Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations Management.
  • Knowledge of process mapping and value stream mapping.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work in an industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills and a creative mindset.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
