About the position

The Industrial Engineer position at Leonardo DRS involves facilitating cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. The role focuses on enhancing manufacturing processes, improving quality and productivity, and reducing costs through strategic deployments of industry-standard practices.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for manufacturing process development, implementation, and continuous improvement to enhance Quality/Yield, reduce Cost, and improve Productivity/Schedule.
  • Initiate and lead lean manufacturing process improvement projects.
  • Implement lean manufacturing tools on the production floor.
  • Perform time studies, calculate tact time vs cycle time, and develop basic manufacturing flow and capacity plans.
  • Specify and implement equipment and processes including efficient layout and optimization of material and information flows.
  • Provide production support to assemblers and leads, documenting manufacturing processes and assembly work instructions in conjunction with the manufacturing engineering team.
  • Design shop/visual aid tooling to assist production.
  • Coordinate layout and work station move activities.
  • Prepare time estimates for proposed projects and evaluate time factors.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering field (Industrial Engineering Preferred).
  • 0-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills regarding manufacturing processes, engineering issues, and proposed changes.
  • Experience with assembly methods and processes.
  • Experience with Drawings and BOMs; Assembly Instructions; Engineering Change systems; Quality systems for non-conforming parts and corrective action.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma Manufacturing methodologies for waste reduction, 5S, Standard Work, TAKT, Pull System, single piece flow, Value Stream Mapping, cell design, and manufacturing flow.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice.
  • Ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Green belt certification in six sigma methodologies strongly encouraged.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fast paced, high volume environments including multi-site operating experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering processes including engineering change control, engineering labor standards and methodologies, six sigma and best practices.
  • Skills in the use of AutoCAD, Arena, Promodel, Flexsim, or other simulation.
