In this role, the Industrial Engineer will be responsible for conducting time studies, defining manufacturing costs, and developing, implementing, and maintaining work standards and manufacturing documentation. The successful candidate will lead projects aimed at reducing product manufacturing costs, collaborating closely with supervisors, factory managers, engineers, and other associates. A strong emphasis will be placed on advocating for behavior-based safety in all plant operations, adhering to company and site-specific safety policies, and initiating efforts to improve workplace ergonomics. The Industrial Engineer will also participate in training sessions and Lean workshops to facilitate improvement efforts and partner with factory managers to sustain these improvements. Additionally, the Industrial Engineer will actively participate in New Product Development (NPD) teams, providing input to ensure proposed designs are feasible within a Lean Manufacturing environment. This role will involve recommending capital equipment additions, managing their implementation, and reviewing production order closeout variances to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Building and maintaining positive work relationships across all organizational levels will be crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct time studies, define manufacturing costs, and develop/implement/maintain work standards and manufacturing documentation (Operational Method Sheets, routings, etc.).
  • Lead the identification, scoping, and execution of projects to reduce product manufacturing costs, collaborating with supervisors, factory managers, engineers, and other associates.
  • Advocate behavior-based safety in all aspects of plant operations, adhering to company and site-specific safety policies, practices, and programs, including the OSHA VPP program.
  • Initiate efforts to improve workplace ergonomics.
  • Lead, participate, and provide training (problem solving, work flexing, etc.) required to effectively complete improvement efforts, including Lean workshops.
  • Partner with factory managers to sustain improvements and participate in MSA Operating System activities that include daily communication meetings, department performance monitoring, and problem solving.
  • Actively participate on NPD teams led by Product Engineering, providing input to ensure proposed designs are realistic and feasible within a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Recommend capital equipment additions and develop appropriate justifications, effectively managing the implementation and commissioning of such additions.
  • Review production order closeout variances, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain positive work relationships with individuals at all organizational levels, both internally and externally to the Cranberry plant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence attitudes and behaviors.
  • Proven ability to simultaneously and independently manage multiple tasks, solve technical problems, lead projects, and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive execution of projects including the ability to identify and act upon potential improvements.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques (Value Stream Mapping, One Piece Flow, Setup Reduction, Lean Management, Visual Controls, etc.) and/or Demand Flow Technology methods.
  • Six Sigma and project management experience.
  • Experience with SAP, MS Project, AutoCAD, SketchUp.
