About the position

As an Industrial Engineer in the Final Assembly Shop at Volvo Cars, you will play a crucial role in shaping both current and future manufacturing processes within the final assembly plant. This position is part of a dynamic team of engineers and technicians, where you will have specific areas of responsibility while also collaborating with your colleagues to achieve common goals. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our assembly operations, ensuring that we meet the high standards of quality and safety that Volvo Cars is known for. In this role, you will be tasked with creating and maintaining standardized work processes and plant floor layouts, which includes managing material facades. You will drive efficiency improvements for both existing and new processes, working closely with production and launch teams. Your responsibilities will also include planning for future car project deliverables and balancing manning requirements to optimize our workforce. You will be responsible for achieving Process Engineering targets, focusing on quality, delivery, flexibility, innovation, productivity, and sustainability (QDFIPS). Continuous improvement will be a key aspect of your role, as you will implement lean process improvements to reduce waste and enhance productivity. Leading Kaizen events with cross-functional teams will be essential, as will participating in problem analysis and resolution processes when specialized expertise is required. Safety, ergonomics, and quality will be at the forefront of your work, and you will perform return on investment calculations for suggested improvements. Additionally, you will conduct time studies, capacity analyses, and layout/product flow analyses to ensure that our processes are as efficient as possible. Your involvement in Launch Team Activities and Budget Projects will further solidify your role in driving operational excellence. As a key interface with tooling and commodity manufacturing engineers, you will ensure that the tools and equipment used in your area meet the necessary quality and efficiency standards. You will also be expected to share your expertise in Volvo Car Line Fundamentals with other teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain standardized work and processes.
  • Create and maintain plant floor layouts, including material facades.
  • Drive efficiency improvements for current processes / new processes under industrialization together with Production / Launch.
  • Plan for future car projects deliverables and rebalance manning requirements.
  • Responsible for Process Engineering targets (QDFIPS) within time/technique/cost.
  • Continuously streamline and improve the assembly processes within your area.
  • Implement lean process improvements and reduce waste.
  • Lead Kaizen events with cross functional teams.
  • Participate in 2nd line process problem analysis (through DMAIC) and participate in the problem-solving process when expertise competence is needed.
  • Consider safety, ergonomics and quality in every aspect of your work.
  • Perform return on investment calculations for suggested improvements.
  • Perform time studies, capacity analyses, layout / product flow analyses and standardized work.
  • Participate in Launch Team Activities and Budget Projects.
  • Manage, organize, assist with training and facilitate Kaizen (Process Improvement) and lean thinking implementation workshops to achieve company objectives.
  • Develops and maintains the standard labor hours, cycle time and takt time.
  • Be the interface towards tooling and commodity ME for the own area regarding tools (lifting devices, support tools etc.) and equipment to secure quality, efficiency and delivery for plant related projects.
  • Be the expert in Volvo Car Line Fundamental and make sure to spread that knowledge to other teams and ensure that we secure fulfillment on the shop floor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 2+ years' experience from manual, highly repetitive and short cycle time assembly processes.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a plus.
  • Excellent skills in MS Office, TeamCenter and preferably simulation software is a plus.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Good communication skills in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Expert know-how in balancing, manning calculations, productivity analysis/loss analysis, capacity analysis and ergonomics.
  • Strong knowledge in Product and Process Engineering.
  • Proficient and experienced in line balancing, cycle time calculations, time studies, capacity analysis and other Industrial Engineering tasks.
  • High energy and passion for your job; self-driven and able to contribute to the team from day one.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross functional and global teams.
  • Great abilities to organize and prioritize your own work.
  • Great problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach.
