About the position

As an Industrial Engineer at C & S Wholesale Grocers, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Industrial Engineering Team's Engineered Labor Standards program. This position is based in Windsor Locks, CT, and involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency across the company's distribution centers (DCs) nationwide. You will be tasked with developing and maintaining engineered labor standards for various distribution functions, including warehousing and transportation, ensuring that these standards are effectively implemented and adhered to across all assigned facilities. Your role will require you to study and analyze current processes within the distribution centers, assessing their effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement. You will recommend strategies to optimize these processes and implement training programs for DC management, supervision, and hourly support staff. This training will focus on the proper methods and procedures necessary to sustain an acceptable level of productivity. Engaging with associates will be a key part of your job, as you will present engineering labor standards and utilize change management strategies to ensure that all levels of associates, management, and applicable union members understand and can implement these standards. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and evaluating facility layout changes that can lead to improved productivity and efficiency. This includes providing cost savings analyses associated with these changes and testing all labor-related improvements using various Labor Management Systems, including EXE and Red Prairie. Your work environment will vary, as you will be required to operate in both office settings and various warehouse conditions, including perishable, freezer, and grocery warehouses. The position demands flexibility, as travel can be required up to 75% of the time, necessitating visits to other facilities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain engineered labor standards for distribution functions at assigned facilities.
  • Study and analyze current processes to determine their effectiveness and recommend strategies for improvement.
  • Implement and train DC management and supervision as well as hourly support staff in proper methods and procedures.
  • Engage with associates to present engineering labor standards and leverage change management strategies.
  • Develop and evaluate facility layout changes to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide cost savings analyses associated with facility layout changes.
  • Test all labor-related improvements using EXE, Red Prairie, and other Labor Management Systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of distribution and warehousing experience.
  • Specialized knowledge in Warehouse/Operations Management, Time Studies, Process Planning/Optimization, Data Mining, Data Analysis, and Data Visualization.
  • Experience using Red Prairie's Labor Management System and/or EXE's Warehouse Management System.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Experience using work study techniques such as stopwatch studies, work sampling, and predetermined time and motion systems (MTM, MOST).
  • Flexibility to work outside normal work hours.
