About the position

Universal Logistics Holdings, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Engineer to join our team at the GM Battery Assembly Plant in Spring Hill. This position is crucial for assisting with warehousing and inventory management operations, ensuring that our supply chain solutions are efficient and effective. The Industrial Engineer will work the 6:00am-3:00pm shift and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall success of our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in layout design, which includes optimizing storage areas and work cell/assembly areas. They will also be involved in the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) development, which is essential for managing material flow and ensuring that the right parts are available at the right time. Additionally, the role requires expertise in line side delivery design, planning, and implementation, as well as process development and design. Time studies will be conducted to analyze and improve efficiency, and the candidate will apply lean manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Data analysis is a key component of this role, as the Industrial Engineer will need to interpret data to make informed decisions. The use of visual factory techniques and error-proofing methods will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring that processes are not only efficient but also reliable. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver, capable of identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with warehousing and inventory management operations at the GM Battery Assembly Plant.
  • Conduct layout design for storage areas and work cell/assembly areas.
  • Develop Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to manage material flow.
  • Design, plan, and implement line side delivery systems.
  • Engage in process development and design to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform time studies to analyze and improve workflow.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct data analysis to support decision-making processes.
  • Utilize visual factory techniques to enhance operational visibility.
  • Implement error-proofing methods to ensure process reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • 0-5 years of engineering experience within a warehouse or distribution environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with Proplanner (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Factory Flow (preferred).
  • Experience with M.O.S.T. (preferred).
  • Ability to write and develop Macros in Excel (preferred).
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
