About the position

Springs Window Fashions is hiring for an Industrial Engineer. The purpose of this role is to create and deliver manufacturing system designs at the lowest life cycle costs. Through the application of Lean principles, systems designs will optimize safety and ergonomics, process flow & materials management systems, and space utilization through proper station designs, balancing operator standard work and equipment. The position involves utilizing methods laboratory to define, validate and deliver process time elements, manual process tools and methods, material racking and WIP tools, operator standard work, machine and operator balance charts & labor linearity plans for multiple volume capacity levels. The engineer will work closely with all cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Quality, IT, MES, and Safety to ensure systems designs include up-to-date standards, best practices, and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver manufacturing system designs for partial and full component assembly processes at all MX business locations.
  • Organize and implement engineering standards to ensure proper designs, deployment, and documentation executed by Plant Operations.
  • Coordinate with Product Engineering to support new product introduction in all phases including concepts introduction, DFMEA, and 3P workshops.
  • Lead development and delivery of all key manufacturing processes including safety and ergonomic designs, detailed station layouts, material handling systems, manual tooling, WIP controls, and error proofing techniques.
  • Deliver and maintain system design tools for each business unit including takt analysis, process flow diagrams, operator and machine balance charts, and capacity planning models.
  • Support plant improvement and capability activities such as Kaizen workshops, continuous improvement, PFMEA, and ergonomic improvements.

Requirements

  • Industrial Engineering bachelor's degree required, with industrial experience as a Process Engineer.
  • Minimum of 4 years of Industrial Engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing and engineering experience in designing and improving processes.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing change that yielded substantially lower cost, better space utilization, higher product flow, and increased capacity without compromising quality.
  • Strong knowledge & experience in Industrial Engineering tools and application to optimize utilization and balance of operator standard work, equipment, materials, and information flows based on Lean fundamentals.
  • Ability to utilize analytical and creative thinking skills for effective decision-making.
  • Proven ability to drive cultural change and champion new initiatives.
  • Strong software skills in spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, and CAD.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in Lean techniques reducing waste in all areas of the VSM.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Technical writing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of various manufacturing processes as they are used in the manufacture of window treatment products.
