About the position

The Industrial Engineer position at JSG involves overseeing engineering processes and personnel training within the Assembly Department. The role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, particularly in the mil/aero industry, and emphasizes continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices. The engineer will be responsible for technical interfaces with customers and production, ensuring efficient workflow and tooling requirements, and managing engineering-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility for the Assembly Department, overseeing engineering process activities and personnel labor training.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of engineering designs, mechanical data sheets, code calculations, and design specifications.
  • Define the department's engineering activity layout and design of workflow and tooling requirements.
  • Supervise technical interfaces with the customer and production on all engineering-related issues and process waiver requests from MRB activity.
  • Interface with design and sales on all quotes, process quotes in the agreed timeframe, and solicit customer feedback.
  • Conduct periodic internal status meetings for all contracts and update customers on schedule impacts and recovery plans.
  • Create work and process instructions, perform assembly time studies, manage router times, and manage assembly yield data.
  • Lead continuous improvement and lean manufacturing projects.
  • Work closely with the Value Stream Managers to coordinate support and production problem-solving.
  • Provide guidance on engineering/manufacturing processes and coordinate schedule and resource needs with other department managers.
  • Provide technical advice to manufacturing regarding tooling, fixture design, floor layout, and production processes.
  • Prepare for customer reviews and status meetings, compile presentations, and coordinate activities with QA and manufacturing.
  • Ensure that jobs in the department are properly transacted in the MRP system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • 1-3 years of manufacturing engineering experience is required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of highly technical engineering principles and processes in the mil/aero industry is necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing are preferred.
