About the position

The Industrial Engineering Internship at Canton Drop Forge offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Interns will collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to support process improvements, efficiency enhancements, and production optimization initiatives. This role is designed to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges while contributing to the company's commitment to innovation in closed die forging across various industries.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret production data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce cycle times.
  • Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices, including 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Assist in the design and optimization of equipment layouts to improve workflow and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support various engineering and production projects, including new product development and process optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure all process improvements and engineering activities comply with safety standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
